Freshwater angling today can easily runs the gamut worldwide of trophy species found throughout various destinations and countries of the Americas today. These adversarial Trophy-Class targets range from the North, of Canadian British Columbia with 50 lb. ocean migrating- Trophy King Salmon, continuing southward into Central America’s Mexico for 10+ lb. Monster Largemouth Bass found abundantly throughout many lake impoundments from the Mexican Gulf westerly to the Pacific coastline. Traveling from Central America, the South American country of Brazil’s profound impact over the last 10 years upon Sportfishing’s list of trophy freshwater game fish with the arrival of the toughest, line-breaking strength and Amazon’s all enthralling, battle driven specie of the 20 + lb. Peacock Bass. These Trophy Peacock Bass abound within the Brazilian, Amazon river basin expanding from the huge, vast Rio Negro system to the north comprised of many major river tributaries connected to many smaller sub-tributary rivers.

 

Trophy freshwater seekers have the opportunity to build upon the quest in “The Pursuit of Exotic- Latin ‘battlers’ “ within two other South America countries of both Venezuela and Argentina. North in Venezuela on the Paragua River, the famed “Sabre-toothed”— the Payara reigns supreme amongst trophy-powered species with it’s crushing, demolishing lure capabilities. The final destination in north of Argentina is home to another Trophy-class specie , the Golden Dorado entering the 20+ lb. category of true freshwater “Powershouse” of the marshlands of the great fishery of the Ibera Marsh-Rio Parana watershed.

 

The other remaining segment of Sportfishing Trophy- anglers falls into the Saltwater species category throughout the Central and South American coastal realm of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. The many “inshore” saltwater fish are found within tidal flats, estuaries, and river inlet structure providing not only safety yet necessary forage for subsistence. Central American trophy species are available, such as Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon off the shores of Belize and the northern Caribbean coastal waters of Costa Rica for Snook and 100+ lb. Tarpon. Offshore or Blue Water- Trophy sportfishermen are highly challenged and enthusiasts for angling in deep water depths seeking out the Big Game Species of the Blue, Black and Striped Marlin or Pacific Sailfsh off Venezuelan shores. Also in Panama and Costa Rica’s southern Pacific, starting just offshore fighting Roosterfish and then by traversing miles west is the warm watered-fishing grounds for both Marlin and Pacific Sailfish. Mexico’s Mazatlan and Cabo peninsula off Cabo San Lucas annually attracts novice and tournament class Big Game anglers targeting the warm weather for plentiful Roosterfish, Dorado, also the Billfish species- Blue, Striped and Black Marlin. A newly emerged Billfishing capitol has developed in the country of Guatemala in the upsurge Pacific waters for record setting numbers of Marlin and especially Pacific Sails concentrating Trophy Saltwater Anglers in recent years, thus joining their Freshwater aficionados select, numerous, warm climate, and hot action trophy fishing destinations available throughout Central and South America.
